Arrival & Departure

Arrival

Staff supervision of students begins at 7:15 a.m. For safety reasons, no students are to arrive at school before 7:15 a.m. except for those children enrolled in Prime Time morning sessions.

Adults delivering children to school should direct them to the playground. Please remind students they are to be in their lines for class. There is no playing or games permitted in the morning on our blacktop for safety reasons.

Preschool, and Kindergarten: Parents may drop off kindergarten students at the blue gate located in the front of our cafeteria. Kindergarten staff will pick up their students at 7:30 am. Preschool students are to be signed in and out daily with their teachers.
Grades 1-5: All students are to go directly to their lines on the blacktop. Students are not to go to their classrooms for any reason. Supervision is provided on the blacktop area ONLY.
Grades 6-8: All students are to get their breakfast from cafeteria and report to the Middle School Area.

Walking

Please use our traffice lights for crossing the street to get on campus. Students are not to cross the parking lot to enter the campus. Please use the walking gate located on Skyline Drive. This helps provide safe travel to and from school.

Bicycles

The San Diego Police Department requests that only students in grades four and above ride bicycles to school. Although the school has designated an area located in front of the auditorium for students to park bicycles, the San Diego Unified School District is not responsible for theft, damage, or loss of use to any bicycle, equipment or article left in or around this area. All such risk is assumed by the student.

All bicycles should have locks and licenses. Students are urged to secure their bicycles in an appropriate manner by using a quality lock and chain or other devices.

Helmets are required by California law. Students not wearing helmets may lose the privilege of parking a bike on school grounds. As defined in Vehicle Code Section 21212, any person under 18 years of age must wear a properly fitted and fastened helmet when riding a bicycle, scooter, skateboard, or when wearing in-line or roller skates. Helmets must also meet the standards of either the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) or the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

Dismissal

Students are dismissed promptly at 2:15 p.m. (12:15 p.m. on Tuesdays) and should leave campus immediately upon dismissal. Students who ride the bus to and from school will leave shortly after dismissal.

Student Pick Up

Please ensure the safety of all students by not parking in the bus loading area and/or asking your child(ren) to cross the street without using the traffic lights at the corners ONLY! The school's main concern is for the health and safety of your children.

Specific dismissal procedures vary by grade level, as indicated below:

Kindergarten: Students are dismissed from the blue gate by their teachers.
Grades 1-5: Teachers walk all students to the library entrance of school. All students must be picked up at the entrance whether they walk home with an older sibling or are picked up by an adult.
Grades 6-8: Teachers dismiss students from the classroom and they are to leave campus via the cafeteria. If they are responsible for a younger student, they must pick them up from the family designated space and promptly head home.
PrimeTime Extended Day Program Students: All PrimeTime and licensed day care program students are dismissed from their classrooms and sent to the auditorium for check in. Kindergarten students are dismissed from the blue gate to the Prime Time.
Bus Students: All buses park in the loading/unloading zone in the lower parking lot. All bus students and space-available riders will line up at the ramp and wait to be called to their bus by a staff member.

If you are more than 10 minutes late to pick up a student, please go to the front office. You may be asked to provide identification. Please review the Visitors Policy page for additional information.
